DRILL PRESS INFORMATION Long hair must be tied back or worn under a cap when you operate the drill press. Use only bits that are designed and manufactured for power drill operation. Be sure that the drill bit is sharp, straight and in good condition before operating. Set the drill speed for the type of cut that is going to be made. The hole in the center of the table must be lined up directly under the cutting tool. Use the clamp to hold the material firmly in place on the table. Use the chuck key to tighten the chuck. Check the chuck to be sure that the chuck key has been removed from the chuck before you turn on the drill press. Keep your hands and fingers away from the area directly around the drill bit. Back out of a deep cut from time to time to prevent the bit clogging and burning. A piece of scrap should be used under the material when a hole is to be drilled all the way through the stock. The drill press must be completely stopped before changes or adjustments are made. Let the drill press coast to a stop, never try to stop it by hand. Use a push stick to clear waste material from the drill press table. Never leave the drill press while it is still running. Wait for it to come to a complete stop before you leave it. Get the instructor’s permission before you use any special set-up or attachments. No loose clothing or jewelry is to be worn when operating the equipment. In the event of a power failure turn the switch to the off position.
