ROUTER INFORMATION Use the Router only after you get permission from the instructor. Don’t use the Router until it’s proper use has been demonstrated. Safety Glasses must be worn to avoid eye injuries. Ear muffs or plugs must be worn to protect your hearing. The Router must always be unplugged when it’s not in use and when you change bits. Before you plug in the Router, check the switch to make sure it is in the OFF position. Be sure that the bit is sharp & in good condition. A worn dirty or damaged collet can damage the Router and the bit. The shank of the bit should be inserted at least 1/8" from the bottom of the collet. Avoid touching the cutting edge of the bit. The chuck should be tight enough to hold the bit snugly, but not so tight that the Router is damaged. Be sure that the bit is clear of the Router base. The lock screw must be secured after the Router has been adjusted for the depth of the cut. Avoid making a cut that is too deep. It is safer to make several shallow cuts. The area of the stock that is to be routed must be clean & free of any debris and metal. The stock must be surfaced and smooth and large enough for the type of cut you plan to make. Material that is to be worked on with the Router should always be secured. The path of the Router must be kept clear of clamps or other objects. Plan the cut so you don’t have to over-reach. Plan the cut so you can keep your balance. Always hold the Router firmly with both hands while you operate it. The bit must be clear of the material when the Router is switched on. Wait for the Router to come up to full speed before you start the cut. Forcing the Router or bit will damage both the Router and the material. The direction of feed should always be against the rotation of the bit. The bit should be clear of the material before the Router is turned off. Wait for the Router to come to a full stop before you set it down. The Router should never be set down on a turning bit. Never wear loose clothing or jewelry when operating equipment.
